Report:

The RNSIT IEEE SPS STUDENT CHAPTER inauguration ceremony was held on 11th of January,2021 at 9:30AM IST in the ECE department by the support from students and staff. The inauguration event was organised in the Hi-Tech lab of the ECE department. The programme was conducted partially online and partially offline. The Principal of the RNSIT Dr. M K Venkatesha, Head of ECE department Dr. Vipula Singh, IEEE student branch counsellor Dr. Rajini V Honnungar, IEEE SPS student Chapter Mentor Mr. Sanjay M Belgaonkar, IEEE SPS student Chapter Chair Ms. Vaishnavi V Bhandarkar and faculties of ECE department had gathered to attend the event offline at the venue. A zoom meeting was hosted by Mrs. Leena Chandrashekar, Assistant professor, ECE department, for the chief guest Mr. Shailesh Sakri, students and faculties to attend the event online.

The event kicked off with an invocation song by Ms. Raksha Bai. Then the welcome speech was delivered to audience by Dr. Vipula Singh, Head of ECE department. The event was continued by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. The event was led by Dr. Rajini V Honnungar, IEEE student branch counsellor who gave the insight of the recent activities conducted by the RNSIT IEEE STUDENT branch in the year 2020. The insight included details regarding the webinars, motivational and technical talks, IEEE Day celebrations and many activities conducted online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Then, Mr. Sanjay M Belgaonkar, assistant professor, ECE, led the event giving an introduction about the chief guest Mr. Shailesh Sakri, Chairperson, IEEE Signal Processing Society, Bangalore Chapter who is currently working as a Senior Manager at DSP Engineering at Harman International. The introduction of Mr. Shailesh Sakri included his experiences and contributions made in the field of audio signal processing for about 20 years. Further, the chief guest Mr. Shailesh Sakri addressed the gathering regarding the IEEE signal processing society. His address note included activities conducted by the Signal Processing society, the benefits of IEEE membership and scope of the signal processing domain.

The event was led by Ms. Vaishnavi V Bhandarkar, Chair of IEEE SPS student chapter who gave the details of the activities planned under the student chapter. The activities list included awareness of IEEE SPS member benefits, technical talks by various experts from research institutes and industries in the signal processing domain, technical and non-technical events like quiz, crosswords, ideathons, hackathons, project and paper presentations, competitions, workshops, conferences and many more activities which will provide a good platform for the students.

Furthermore, Dr. M K Venkatesha, Principal of RNSIT delivered the presidential remarks which included support from the entire college will be provided for the growth of the SPS student chapter and help students in the learning process during the pandemic. Then, Mrs. Leena Chandrashekar, assistant professor, ECE department delivered the vote of thanks to the audience.

The event was led by chief guest Mr. Shailesh Sakri who gave the key note address to the audience. His address included his journey in the signal processing domain, details of the signal processing society, the learning process, scope in research field and applications in the latest smart device technology. It also included guidance provided by IEEE societies to the growth of one’s career, benefits of attending various webinars, conferences and publishing one’s work. Later, questions were asked by the audience to the chief guest who answered them in detail motivating each and every person. He also encouraged them to take up IEEE SPS membership and wished good luck to the students for their career in signal processing domain.

The event successfully ended at 11AM IST, and was closed by Mrs. Leena Chandrashekar, assistant professor, ECE department.
